The Interstate 880 freeway serves an integral role in the Bay Area transportation network by connecting Alameda County to Silicon Valley. I-880 accommodates high volumes of traffic on a daily basis. When an incident occurs on the freeway, traffic often naturally diverts to local surface streets, causing traffic impacts to local neighborhoods.
The project is the first directed by MTC to implement ICM strategies along the I-880 Corridor. The enhancements will provide benefits to motorists and local communities along the nine-mile corridor. These benefits include enhanced motorist, pedestrian, and bicyclist safety, improved air quality through decreased fuel emissions and consumption, and related quality-of-life improvements to the many communities neighboring the I-880 Corridor between Oakland and San Leandro.
As the project progresses, stay updated on the installation of ITS equipment, system testing, impacts to the community and commuters, and more through press releases, photos, and videos that we will share here.
